About the Author and book

Dr. Ahmad Anwar Syed Ahmad Al-Jundi (1917-2002) was a renowned Egyptian Islamic writer and intellectual. He studied economics and management at the Cairo University. In order to respond to doubts raised on Islam by the West, he learnt English and got command over it.
In 1940, he happened to read the synopsis of a book titled "???? ???????, The Islamic Perspective" which consisted of the writings of some orientalists. This drew his attention to challenges against Islam and conspiracies of the West. He used his pen as weapon and stood firm against the influence of un-Islamic thought and cultural attack.
As Dr. Anwar Al-Jundi was a literary figure, he criticized icons of this field itself. For instance, he targeted Taha Hussein, Abbas Mahmud Al-Aqqad, Ahmed Lutfi El-Sayed, Salama Moussa, Jurji Zaydan, and Tawfiq Al-Hakim. He critically held them to task on parameters of right Islamic thought and criticized Taha Hussein in particular. This is because, according to him, Taha Hussein alone was the greatest flag-bearer of Westernism. Therefore, he penned two books against Taha Hussein titled "?? ???? ????? ?? ????? ???????, Taha Hussein, His Life in View of Islam" and "?????? ??? ?? ????, Critical Analysis of Taha Hussein's Thought".
In this mission of fight with pen, Dr. Anwar Al-Jundi had to face tough times as well. He also spent some time in jail in 1951. He penned around 31 books on various Islamic subjects. In addition to these, he authored more than 200 books on literary, political, and social subjects. He has also written more than 300 booklets and articles.
The subject of Islamic sharia remained the most important focus of his attention wherein he proved its suitability in the modern age with arguments.
Despite defending Islam on the front of West-Islam tussle in such a strong manner, he stayed away from the desire of fame and show-off. He always lived a simple life and shunned luxury.
He used to say: "I work to get rewarded by Almighty Allah". After living such a simple life, he passed away on 28 January 2002 at the age of 85.
